Choose **timber for a traditional, adaptable garden shed; resin if avoiding repainting is your priority; and a purpose-built steel model for a security-led shortlist.** We would start with pressure-treated timber for general garden storage, then switch material when upkeep or the contents give you a clear reason.

## Compare the job the shed must do

Write down your three non-negotiables. For a mower, that might be the clear doorway, threshold and usable floor width. For bicycles, it might be a workable removal route, suitable anchor installation and compliance with your insurance conditions. For a bench, draw the bench and standing position before deciding the roof shape.

Ask each supplier the same questions. An included floor, a base frame and a prepared foundation are different things. Photographs can also show shelves, locks or ramps that cost extra. Record what comes in the quoted package rather than comparing the largest headline photograph.

## Make maintenance a site decision

A narrow gap behind the shed may make an otherwise suitable model awkward to own. Mark the manufacturer's installation space and the access you need for later work. If one shortlisted building needs a different foundation or assembly service, include that in its total.
